It may be the replay of the year, and it’s guaranteed you’ll see this highlight over and over again. After catching over 20 pounds in the St. Lawrence River, Chris Johnston moved into Lake Ontario, looking for a couple more 5-pound smallmouth bass to cull up a limit that’s approaching 25 pounds.
At about 11:40 a.m. he hooked a fish in deep water that felt big, but wasn’t putting up much of a fight. As it came to the surface, it rocketed out of the water and onto the deck of Johnston’s boat.
“Why can’t every one of them do that,” Johnston laughed. “The thing didn’t fight the whole way up, then he did that.”
It was a 5-pounder.
