Jocumsen’s punch tactic

A 3.5-inch Molix SV Craw, rigged on 4/0 Mustad Jungle Hook, with 1.5-ounce WOO! Tungsten weight is the bait of choice for Carl Jocumsen’s flipping program.

It’s his favorite bait for flipping and punching. However, in this case it’s not all about the lure. It’s all about the presentation. I didn’t pry into exactly what that meant, although Jocumsen did tell me this about it.

“Most guys that are punching are mechanically doing it the same way,” he said. “I figured out how they want it, how to work it differently than what I’m seeing other guys doing.”

Mechanically? That can only mean something he’s doing with the mechanics of the lure presentation, how he is actually working the bait through the thick cover.

This also lines up with what Davy Hite said on Bassmaster LIVE. It takes a precise presentation to make these bass strike a bait. There seems to be nothing random about it. Maybe the secret will be revealed on LIVE, as Jocumsen has a cameraman in the boat.
