Ish’s Red Bull chaser

After putting a fourth keeper in the boat Ish Monroe took a quick break. He drank a 5-Hour Energy Shot and chased that with a half can of Red Bull.

“Got to keep up,” he said.

In fact, things are looking up for Monroe and the other top anglers whose patterns are focused on shallow water.

Monroe says he is fishing “shade pockets,” an unsual descriptor for the shade created by brushpiles along the flooded shorelines.

In his case, shade becomes Monroe’s primary casting target. As the sun rises, adding more shade, the bass move to such spots for concealment. Baitfish become prey as the bass ambush the food from the shade.

We are beginning to see that mid-morning transitional time referenced by many of the anglers. It’s a timeframe when sun comes into play, the wind begins blowing, and the anglers adust strategies.
