After four days at storied Lake Guntersville when nobody broke the 20-pound, 5-bass mark, it may seem ridiculous to think anyone would top 30 pounds in a day at the Santee Cooper Lakes now. But it’s not completely out of the question.
Randy Sullivan, coming off a second-place finish at Lake Guntersville, said he could have had close to 30 pounds during his first day of practice here. Davy Hite, who grew up fishing Santee Cooper and has a condominium in Santee now, thinks we’ll see something close to 30 this week.
“I could see a guy catching 27 pounds one day, and having 10 pounds the next,” said the former B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year and Bassmaster Classic champion.
That’s the rub. It’s going to be awfully difficult to be consistent on the 170,000 acres of water available to the 85 Elite Series anglers over the next four days.
“Consistency is the key,” Hite said. “Just like at Guntersville.”
