Irony of the late spawn

All week we’ve heard the spawn is late on Grand Lake.

“They are way behind and really want to get up on the bank and spawn.”

The trivial irony of Kevin VanDam’s comment and the true fact the spawn is late are worth noting. That is because this is the first Bassmaster Elite Series event of the season held under spawning conditions. Think about that. Late April and we are just now watching the pros sight fish and generally fish for spawners.

Last year by this time the pros had fished three spawning events at Lake Okeechobee, Toledo Bend and Ross Barnett.

There is more to come on the spawning front. Three more days of fishing remain on Grand Lake and the action indeed is shifting toward a spawning bite.

Next week the fishing forecast is very much the same for Kentucky Lake, where the spawn there is late. We are in for a spawn-fest in the coming days and weeks.
