Hudnall’s game plan

Andy Crawford is with Derek Hudnall, who is fishing round the railroad trestle crossing the Upper Santee Swamp in Lake Marion. He’s got 12 pounds in the livewell: a pair of 4-pounders, a 3-pounder and two 14-inchers.

He told Andy that sunlight is needed to position the bass closer to the cypress trees that he is targeting with a wacky worm. His wish is unlikely to be granted, as you can see from the latest NWS satellite image. Yesterday, Hudnall had only 6 bites, so it’s going to be another grinder of a day.

Despite it all, the south Louisiana swamp mojo is working for Hudnall, just like it is for Louisianian Tyler Rivet. Hudnall is 55th and Rivet 76th, respectively, in points for the Bassmaster Angler of the Year.

Taking it one day at a time, what matters most today is staying inside the Top 40, and even better, being in position to fish on Championship Sunday. Point is, every day available to be competing is a must. So far, so good.
