Beautiful South Carolina, the Palmetto state, has six Elites fishing this week. There’s clearly fishing talent here. How are the native sons doing? After two days, Britt Myers of Lake Wylie is in first place, Marty Robinson of Lyman is 11th, Jason Williamson of Wagener finished 55th, Davy Hite of Ninety Six finished 104, Andy Montgomery of Blacksburg finished 105 and Casey Ashley of Donalds finished 109.
It should be noted that Hite got stuck in the mud yesterday and didn’t make it back to the Georgetown weigh-in. He told us he had 6 to 7 pounds, which wouldn’t have got him inside the 50 cut but would have given him about 40 valuable AOY points.
Are we surprised more South Carolina natives didn’t makes the Top 50? Not necessarily. Most of the guys are more experienced fishing reservoirs where the conditions tend to be stable. In these tidal waters near the coast, with moving waters that change daily, we tend to see some big swings and misses from the competitors. Look at Carl Jocumsen for example. Day 1 he has 19+ pounds and leads the tournament. Day 2 the conditions where he caught his big bag change and he catches one keeper for 1.8 pounds.
