Obviously, there will be no wire-to-wire winner at the Harris Chain like there was when John Crews won at the St. Johns River last week. Buddy Gross took the lead with a two-day total of 40 pounds, 7 ounces, after being in 3rd place after Day 1.
There was considerable volatility in the standings from Day 1 to Day 2. The first-day top two, Brandon Lester and Pat Schlapper, dropped out of the top 10 and five new names were in the top 10 at the end of the day. Micah Frazier jumped from 53rd place to 6th with his 23-pound, 14-ounce limit yesterday, and Stetson Blaylock moved from 38th place to 5th with his 23-7 bag.
A trend that appeared in the Day 1 comparisons of these two Florida fisheries strengthened on Day 2. Overall, the 94 Elite Series anglers are catching a lot more fish this week than last week at the St. Johns River. Ninety-three limits were brought to the scales yesterday vs. only 50 limits on Day 2 at the St. Johns.
Remember, this comparison isn’t intended to be a statement of which Florida bass fishery is better than the other. It’s simply a comparison of how the 94 Elite Series anglers performed on these particular days, and maybe give a hint about where the SiteOne Bassmaster Elite at the Harris Chain is headed over the next two days.
