Gustafson lands No. 5 – finally

Jeff Gustafson had his tournament-leading five-bass limit of 17-14 by 10 a.m. yesterday. He had four of those 18-inch minimum smallmouth bass in the boat by 10 a.m. today. Number five was a long time coming, three hours to be exact.

“That feels so good,” Gustafson said after landing his fifth keeper smallmouth at 12:46. “That took a long time.”

Making it feel even longer is the miserable weather. A steady rain has fallen most of the day now, and Gustafson said he’s dry, but “I didn’t dress that warm.” He’s done something that no one thought was possible before this tournament began – caught a limit of keeper smallmouth bass two days in a row.
