Gustafson’s difference-maker

Canadian Jeff Gustafson is new to the Elite Series, but he’s familiar with Lake Lanier. Of the FLW anglers last year who came to the Elite Series this year, Gustafson’s 7th-place finish last March on Lanier was the best.

Gustafson landed one of those 4-pound difference-makers at 1:20 p.m. that upped his total to 16 pounds, 8 ounces and first place for the day, according to BASSTrakk.

It took 68-4 to win the FLW event in March 2018. Most predictions for this tournament were for something like that 17-pound average per day to be the winning weight this year.

“It will probably take something like 16 to 18 pounds a day,” said Brandon Cobb, who was 26th in the FLW event last year. “I think you’ll see a lot of 14-pounds-plus bags throughout the tournament.”

There are a lot of those 14-pound bags starting to show up today, according to BASSTrakk.
