Getting the green light

Why are some docks better than others? It could be location, brush, shade, or some combination thereof. One other factor is underwater lights. There are quite a few docks on Hartwell that have them, and they bring in the food chain, thereby attracting a rotating population of bass.

Two-time defending champion Hank Cherry started on just such a dock, a stone’s throw from the Green Pond Landing take-off site. It did not produce, but he’s continuing to work down the bank. The Classic fish weren’t released here, but there may be some other “retreads” from recent tournaments. Even if there aren’t, there’s plenty of juicy looking cover here, and he didn’t have to burn a lot of gas to get here.

We can still hear boats buzzing around, likely both competitors and recreationalists, but Cherry is patiently working this nearby bank, making the most of the final day of the 2022 Bassmaster Classic.
