Rarely do you get 50 Elite Series pros to agree on any subject, but this week at Lake Mille Lacs, they’re in agreement on two: 1) smallmouth bass fishing is still good, but it’s significantly tougher than it was a year ago; and 2) the walleye fishing is unbelievable.
“We need to be having a walleye tournament because I know how to catch them,” said Jason Christie, in describing his practice this week when he caught more walleye while fishing for smallmoth bass than he did smallmouth bass. “There are some hammer walleye in here. I’ve got it figured out.”
Brandon Palaniuk agreed, saying, “You can catch a lot more walleye than smallmouth right now. It’s crazy.”
It should be noted that neither Christie nor Palaniuk were asked about walleye fishing in Mille Lacs. They brought it up when describing what their practice days had been like this week. You’re sure to see plenty of walleye caught on Lake Mille Lacs on “Bassmaster LIVE” and in the photo galleries during the tournament.
