As you would expect when comparing Day 1 and 2 on the St. Johns River, there was no comparison between the full day Friday and the fog-shortened day on Thursday. There were seven bags over 20 pounds weighed-in vs. only two on Day 1, and 81 five-bass limits vs. only 54 on Day 1 in the 99-angler field.
But there also seemed to be an afternoon bite Friday that wasn’t there on Thursday. Wes Logan’s 8-pound, 8-ounce big bass of the day was caught at 1:36. Kenta Kimura landed an 8-7 at 2:42.
“I had one fish at one o’clock,” said Kimura, who weighed-in a 20-pound, 4-ounce bag that rocketed him from 77th place on Day 1 to 32nd-place on Day 2, well inside the top 50 cut for Day 3. Speaking of which, the 50th-place last angler in for Friday was Darold Gleason with a two-day total of 22-6.
