Field is bunched on crucial day

Everything from Bassmaster Classic berths to Elite Series careers could be decided today. The 94-angler field will be cut to the top 45 after the Day 2 weigh-in of the Farmers Insurance Bassmaster Elite at the St. Lawrence River.

As is typical on every smallmouth bass fishery, the Day 1 weights were tightly bunched – 89 of 94 anglers weighed 5-bass limits. Rob Digh finished in 45th place yesterday with 17 pounds, 5 ounces. Twenty-four pros were within a pound of 17-5. An ounce or two, or a tiebreaker will probably decide 45th place and who lives to fish the St. Lawrence River another day. With this being the ninth and final Elite Series event of the season, the Day 2 cut simply means more today.
