Downey starts with 6 1/2-pounder

Bob Downey caught his 27-pound, 4-ounce limit yesterday in about two hours. It’s not happening as quickly today, but it’s happening. Downey landed his first keeper at 9:06, and it was a 6 1/2-pounder. Photographer Andy Crawford is following Downey this morning. He said Downey is making multiple casts on the same offshore area, working it over and over.

Five anglers weighed 20-pound bags or better on Day 1. Two of those guys are fishing within 100 yards of each other this morning. In addition to Downey, Micah Frazier was in 4th place with 20-4.

“Both appear to be fishing essentially the same,” Crawford said. “They are both fishing off the banks.”
