Downey: Same place, different plan

Downey is back in Salt Springs where he caught his first-day, second-place stringer of 27 pounds, 4 ounces and struggled yesterday with only one bass weighing 6-11. It dropped him from 12 ounces behind leader John Crews after Day 1 to 5th place and over 11 pounds behind Crews on Day 2. So what’s Downey’s plan today? Same place, however he said he’s going to be fishing differently today, focusing more on the banks and eventually moving farther back into the creek where the water is clear, according to photographer Andy Crawford.

“I am going to try that area but probably not as long as I did yesterday.” Downey said.

He didn’t have to try it long, as his strategy of working closer to the bank with a Rapala X-Rap Prop bait paid off with a 4-pounder at 8:45.
