Don’t leave home without it

Chris Zaldain mentioned yesterday that he “gutted his boat,” taking out all unnecessary tackle and equipment for the 200-mile round trip to the Cooper River from Georgetown. If you’re making that run, there’s one thing you can’t leave home without – a credit card, or a big wad of cash.

Zaldain, who made the round trip all four days in finishing 10th in 2016, estimated he’d burn 80 to 100 gallons of gas – per day – during the tournament. His boat holds 48 gallons, and he’ll need a fill-up at a Cooper River marina before making the run back to the Georgetown check-in point.

You need to earn a nice check just to cover your fuel costs at Winyah Bay, if you’re making that long run.
