“Disney World for adults,” says Benton

Elite Series Rookie of the Year Drew Benton had a good description of Mille Lacs Lake, saying, “This is Disney World for adults. There’s just a ton of 3 ½- to 4 ½-pound fish out there. I don’t know how many times I’ve brought one to the boat and gone, ‘Aw, it’s another 4-pounder. It’s not going to help.’ You never hear that. It’s just incredible.”

That gives you a clue of what to look for if you’re following the BASSTrakk Twitter feed today: Anything under 4 pounds you can ignore; anything 4 1/2 pounds and above is a “keeper.”

The average of the 243 bass weighed-in on Day 1 for all 50 anglers was 4.00 pounds. There were 248 bass weighed-in on Day 2 and the average dropped slightly to 3.81 pounds. That’s incredible, especially when you consider there haven’t been any huge fish to bump the average. Big bass on Day 1 was Jason Wiliamson’s 6-1. On Day 2, Tommy Biffle, Greg Hackney and Casey Ashley tied for big bass honors with a 6-0.

By the way, Seth Feider said his all-time biggest smallmouth bass from Mille Lacs weighed 7-2.
