Deep and shallow

This morning I tapped into the mind of Albert Collins, one of the top B.A.S.S. Nation anglers in the country. Collins calls the Lufkin, Texas, area home and he recently fished in the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

All of the above said, Collins told me that he is catching lots of numbers bass on Rayburn in shallow water. There is a deep bite, but not like it should be by this time of the season. Collins predicted the offshore the bite could get hotter as those anglers get dialed into sweet spots.

“The offshore bite just hasn’t happened yet,” he told me. “As the offshore guys get dialed into that bite it likely will improve.”

He also eluded to a very unique pattern that is evolving in shallow water. I can’t disclose details since one or more of the leaders is catching fish in that way. Hint: It’s a follow-up, one-two punch kind of strategy. Remember back in the day when you used a plastic worm after a missed strike with a buzz bait?
