Davis proves prophetic

Tim Horton was the last man in the Top 50 cut after yesterday’s weigh-in, thus guaranteeing himself a $10,000 check. Horton’s two-day total was 20 pounds, 6 ounces. Before the tournament started, Mark Davis mentioned the unlikely possibility that 10 pounds a day might be worth something this week on the Potomac River.

“It’s August,” Davis said. “I didn’t come over here and pre-fish in July, but the guys that did said it was pretty easy to catch 15, 16 pounds. So it’s not that the fish aren’t here. It’s just that we’re here at a tough time.”

“A 10-pound limit shouldn’t even be worth a nickel here. But it might be worth 10-grand this go-around.”

However, Davis wasn’t precisely prophetic. Ott Defoe caught exactly 20 pounds over two days and finished in 51st place. As for Davis, he entered the day in 19th place with 27-1.
