Davis overcomes his fears

Mark Davis has to be feeling good. BASSTrakk showed him in 15th place with 12-5 at 1 p.m. Davis feared the worst before launch this morning, when he was searching his truck for finesse worms – little bitty finesse worms.
“When you’re digging for finesse worms on the first morning of a tournament on the Potomac River, that’s not a good place to be,” Davis said. “Somewhere else that might be the norm, but not here.”

Davis, like a lot of these guys, had a tough practice – a horrible day 1, a decent day 2, then another horrible day 3. It left him feeling a bit lost.

“It’s August,” Davis said. “I didn’t come over here and pre-fish in July, but the guys that did said it was pretty easy to catch 15, 16 pounds. So it’s not that the fish aren’t here. It’s just that we’re here at a tough time.”

Davis thinks an average of 15 pounds a day should put you in contention to win this four-day tournament, and considerably less might get you a Top 50 finish, which is worth $10,000.

“A 10-pound limit shouldn’t even be worth a nickel here,” Davis said. “But it might be worth 10-grand this go-around.”
