Credit to Evers’ accurate forecast

Though he’s far from the only one, Edwin Evers frequently underestimates his daily BASSTrakk totals. However, it seemed like he was overestimating the potential for this tournament when Evers predicted Wednesday that it would take an average of “20 pounds a day and change” to win at Grand Lake.

At the Day 1 weigh-in, when 11 anglers topped 20 pounds, those 80-pound winning weight predictions were common.

Fred Roumbanis noted on “Bassmaster LIVE” this morning that he thought it would take 18 pounds a day to win, but changed his mind yesterday. “I think it will take 82 pounds now,” he said. “There are just so many big fish in this lake.”

Gerald Swindle was another one of those anglers upping his predictions after Day 1, saying, “It will take at least 20 a day – 80 pounds. I don’t think it’s going over that. I think you’re going to have to have 20 a day to win, 18 3/4ths to make the 12 cut and 15 a day to make a check.”

The Top 50 cut comes after today’s weigh-in. Jonathon VanDam was in 50th place after Day 1 with 15-11.
