Cox closest to a limit

John Cox is closing in on a limit on Championship Monday. Using a Berkley General and Jerk Shad, he has been sight fishing all morning and has four bass for approximately 11-0. Unofficially, he is in fourth-place with a total of 77-3.

After landing two fish within the first hour, including one around 4 pounds, Cox added his third bass of the day around 9:55.

The Florida native then fished a bed a couple yards away that he has seen multiple fish on throughout the week, but they keep sliding on and off the bed. This morning, he had not seen the bass but after making a couple pitches to the bed, the smallest one he had seen (a 3-pounder) rushed in and snatched his watermelon seed-colored Jerk Shad.

“It is one of my favorite baits,” Cox said. “It always catches them.”

A slow morning for the rest of the field has allowed Cox to make a jump up the leaderboard, but with a 12-pound deficit to start the morning, he will need to make some upgrades later in the day to have a shot at the title.
