Cook starts with a 5-8

If Drew Cook is going to top 100 pounds in this tournament, and he’s on pace with 56-9 after two days, he’s going to need bass like the first one he landed this morning. It took awhile, but Cook landed a 5 1/2-pounder at 9:15. He caught it on the same bait he’s caught everything else on this week – a Big Bite Baits Fightin’ Frog in tilapia magic color.

“It’s the perfect bed-fishing bait,” Cook said after Day 2. “When the light hits that sparkle just right, I think it makes a difference. You can catch them on other baits, but I feel like I can catch them quicker and be more effective with this bait.”

Early indications are it’s going to be another heavy-weight day at Santee Cooper Lakes. By 9:30 a.m., there were already a 7-3, a 6-4 and four 6-pounders posted on BassTrakk.
