Gettys Brannon and I watched Keith Combs make his first cast at exactly 8 a.m. ET.
He’s fishing off the shoreline with a drop shot rig. Yesterday when I interviewed Combs he lamented about losing so many fish. After catching his first keeper he lost the next four.
“Some bit short, others pulled the worm off the hook. Even adjusting the timing of my hookset, letting them take the bait longer, didn’t help. It was very frustrating. In practice I was getting solid bites, good hook-to-land ratio.”
Today he hopes to button things up, knowing that weights will begin adding up. He’s off to a good start with the first keeper in the boat at 8:09 a.m. And he just caught a second keeper at 8:19 a.m. Lots of bait in the area to that’s a good sign.
“It weighs about 15 ounces,” he told us. “I’m not complaining right now.”
Gettys said this is a popular spot with numerous anglers rotating through the area.
