Combs culling up

Keith Combs is culling up, while Gerald Swindle is stuck on 3. That’s the total number of bass the AOY leader brought to the scales yesterday.

Combs is 22nd with 14-8 for the day and an overall total of 31-3, according to BASSTrak. That is double the total weight of Swindle. His score is 8-8 for the day and 18-1 overall.

That makes this championship race far from over. Far, as in the off day that will happen tomorrow. For Swindle it could be a very long day.

Combs is proving why he’s a legit AOY contender. He’s from Texas and has shaken the sterotype of being a flat lander when it comes to bass fishing. Combs is catching offshore smallmouth with the skill of a Midwest expert.

Surely, one reason why is how he’s applying some of the skills learned on the flats of Toledo Bend for largemouth. The reefs of Mille Lacs are obviously much different, but the point is Combs is showing off his offshore angling skills, which is a sign of versatility.
