Carters Lake is reputed to be the best trophy spotted bass lake in Georgia, which is a big statement. Chris Lane’s 4-pound, 10-ounce spotted bass, caught at 8:16 a.m., showed – finally – that Carters Lake’s reputation is well-earned.
Lane’s fish is the big bass of the tournament so far – by half a pound. There were four 4-pound spotted bass caught Tuesday, when this tournament began: Fred Roumbanis and Scott Rook both landed 4-2s, Greg Vinson had a 4-1 and Shin Fukae weighed a 4-0.
But overall, Carters Lake has been very stingy. There were only 15 keepers caught by the six anglers in the morning session yesterday. That total dropped to 14 in the afternoon session.
Here’s how much of a game-changer Lane’s big bass is: Lane immediately talked of game-planning for tomorrow, rather than building on the 3-pound, 13-ounce lead he suddenly has over Chad Pipkens.
