Brett Hite among the leaders today

Brett Hite isn't showing up on the BASSTrakk leaderboard today, but he's there. Ronnie Moore has reported Hite is whacking 'em, like he did yesterday when Hite weighed 20-7 and moved into 13th place. Dave Smith is among the leaders. He and Hite have been fishing the same area of Lake St. Clair all three days. Smith had 21-9 yesterday, good for 11th place with a two-day total of 38-7. Hite had 38-0.

"I probably caught 50 fish and 25 to 30 three-pounders," Hite said. "It's a blast. I went through seven or eight packs of worms."

Hite has been riding a roller coaster of a season. The low point was at the St. Lawrence River, which fit his strengths, but he finished 92nd. Hite, like Todd Faircloth, was hurting in the AOY standings, where he was in 72nd place going into Chesapeake Bay. A 24th-place finish there helped.

Hite came into this regular season finale 57th in AOY points. Based on yesterday's standings, he would be 35th.

"If I could muster around and have the potential to make the Classic (at Sturgeon Bay), I'd be very, very fortunate," Hite said. "All I want is a shot to make the Classic, and I've put myself in that position."
