Two 8-pounders were recorded on BASSTrakk by 8:02 this morning. Jason Christie landed an 8-pounder at 7:38, and Shaw Grigsby caught an 8-8 at 8:02. It’s highly likely those were females on spawning beds, although that’s unconfirmed at this time. Sight-fishing is expected to be a major pattern this week on Toledo Bend.
A year ago, when Kevin VanDam won here with 96 pounds, 2 ounces, there were only eight 8-pounders caught in the tournament. In other words, this event is off to a blazing start.
