Bertrand’s take on Oahe

This morning I interviewed Josh Bertrand, one of my picks to be a top contender in the tournament.

Here is what the Arizona pro, who also ranked fifth in AOY, had to say about his day coming up, and the dynamics of Lake Oahu. As well, BASSTRakk also shows him in the early lead.

“We had really calm weather in practice and this morning it really picked up. What that will do is change a lot of things. On this lake the most important factor is that it makes it really rough. You can’t go running around to a lot of places, and you have to build run time into your time management.”

And then he shared this nugget.

“Another thing it does is muddy up the shallow areas, because there are a lot of clay and mud shorelines. Add boat wakes and wind and it muddies up the shoreline, sending a mud line out for 100 yards away. It’ll actually make a lot of areas un-fishable, because these fish aren’t as used to muddy water.”

Lastly, what the wind will do is move the bait around,” he continued. “Whether those are shad, herring, the wind creates a current and moves the bait around like you see on lakes like Mead. The last couple days the wind was out of the south, not blowing so hard. So now you get a heavy north wind and the bait moves around more, because this lake runs north and south.”
