Back in the backwater

The Sabine River is more than what the name implies. The river is small by comparison to the backwater labyrinth of bayous, swamps and lakes. The latter is where I am now with James Overstreet. This lake is small but ideal for bidding time on the slack tide. Several boats are in here and likely started the day in this lake near the takeoff site at City of Orange Boat Ramp.

Here’s some more about the current conditions faced by these guys. Surface water temperature is in the low 80s, about right for this time of year. There is a nice southwesterly breeze coming off the Gulf of Mexico, even though the dew point is in the high 70s and humidity is 99%. It’s going to get hot. The forecast high is 90 degrees, but add the dew point and the heat index is pushing 100 degrees.
