The Alabama Power factor

What sets a series of central Alabama impoundments apart from others is the Coosa River, and specifically how it’s managed for power generation. That is managed by Alabama Power, and when the generators turn on, so does the spotted bass bite in most cases.

This, of course, repositions spotted bass out on the main lake, also opening up the feeding window as the baitfish are moved around by the generator-driven current in the main river channel.

Disclaimer: Based on the cold snap and unsettled weather that might not make a difference. But here are the facts.

Alabama Power overnight flipped the switch on the generators coming into Lay Lake at Lake Logan Martin Dam with two running at 20,244 cfs. Lay Dam is also running two generators at 11,032 cfs, and the schedule for both dams remains consistent today and tomorrow.
