A five-bass limit topping the 30-pound mark isn’t extraordinary at Lake Guntersville. It’s always a possibility here. However, this isn’t prime time for those big bags at this lake. If there’s going to be one during this Elite Series event, it’s likely to occur today.
“I think there will be a 30-pound bag (Friday), but I don’t think they’ll be able to follow it up,” said Kelley Jaye yesterday.
Today’s weather also was a factor in his prediction, as Jaye said, “We’re going to have bluebird skies. These fish are a lot like Florida-strain bass. They really like sunshine. It seems like when the sun comes out, they start biting a little better.”
As of 9:30 a.m., Matt Arey is best positioned to hit the 30-pound mark. Not only is he the unofficial leader with 20 pounds, 5 ounces, but Arey has a 7-pound, 2-ounce kicker in his livewell, plus plenty of room to cull up, as he’s also got a 2-8 and a 2-14 in his limit.
