“When I picked up the Summit in their booth it was just instantaneous that whatever they are doing is far superior to anyone else.” That’s what happened when Dudley spontaneously visited Favorite Fishing’s booth at ICAST, the fishing industry’s annual trade show. “I didn’t think anyone could separate themselves from the competition, especially in the rod category, but they have done it.”

“Without a true reel seat you get closer contact of the hands with the rod blank,” adds Dudley. I’m feeling strikes and lure action like never before. The ergonomic grips make it even better by adding comfort. I feel like my hand is directly in contact with the rod blank, which actually it is.”

“I didn’t really know how to deal with it because it was such a new feeling.” That’s how Martin described the sensitivity and lightweight feeling imparted in his hands by the Summit for the very first time. “I also really like the Big Sexy. I keep thinking I’ll break one because I love winching out big 10 pounders from heavy vegetation on Lake Okeechobee. I’ve never seen a rod so strong.” The 10-pounders keep coming and the Big Sexy continues standing up the test.

“Usually you sacrifice strength and durability for lighter weight rods,” says Dewayne French, a Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens pro who works with the Favorite Fishing design team. “You don’t lose either with these rods and in fact you gain strength and sensitivity.” French, a biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, frequents the streams around his home in the Arkansas Ozarks.

French favors the 7’ 2” Summit for an all-around versatile rod. “Usually with a rod of this size it gets heavy, but you won’t find a lighter rod because it’s the lightest on the market. I can fish it all day.” French likes the medium/heavy-fast action for A-rigs, heavy jigs, crankbaits and jigs.

“One of the neatest things happened after I flipped a jig to a laydown,” continues French. “I rested the butt of the rod behind the reel beneath my forearm, like you normally do when flipping. When I got a strike I felt it in my elbow. Never before have I felt that, nor did I ever think I would, but it’s a strong testimony of tip to tip, one-piece design.”
