Why you need side-scan

Humminbird’s sonar upgrade

When fishermen first saw the image clarity of Humminbird’s side imaging in operation, the first question was, “Why isn’t this level of definition available in down-looking sonar?” The question was answered in late September with the announcement of “Down Imaging Sonar,” which renders a picture-like view of the water beneath the boat. Down Imaging will be available as a free software upgrade for current Humminbirds with Side Imaging (except the 797c2 SI) beginning in January. The innovation is being added to new Side Imaging models such as the 998c SI and 898c SI, and as a “running change” to existing models. In split-screen modes, you will be able to see up to three views simultaneously, including side imaging, the traditional SwitchFire sonar and Down Imaging. No new hardware or transducer is required.
