Mark Zona, host of “Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show” (ZAFS), unveils his first live broadcast for the 2018 calendar year. After a successful slate of 2017 TV shows and live broadcasts, “Zona LIVE” returns to the airwaves of Bassmaster.com.
Mark Zona has teamed up with long-time friend and legendary angler Davy Hite to fish in Michigan. The duo has fished together for three ZAFS’s in the past, but never for a “LIVE” broadcast which should be a fun and interesting twist. One factor that is always a question mark is the weather up north. It has been improving around Zona’s Michigan stomping grounds. But it may take a turn for the worse later this week, so extra preparation has been key to make this “Zona LIVE” presented by Humminbird a success.
“I’ve tried to schedule a ‘Zona LIVE’ on Lake St. Clair early last year as well as this year,” Zona said. “While the weather is nice now, it’s expected to get harsh this week so once again weather has thrown a curveball our way. It can be hit or miss with positive weather in the early spring as well as late fall in Michigan.”
Zona would love to fish for smallmouth on St. Clair. But he has taken a few weeks to dial-in other Michigan lakes that check all the necessary boxes for a production like “Zona LIVE.” Along with finding a fun location that brings as much action as possible in the four-hour time frame, there are other factors Zona has to consider.
“Finding a lake with good fish and good cell coverage is hard to achieve,” Zona said. “I’ll find a great lake with biting fish and I can’t send a text on the water. Then I’ll find a lake with great coverage and can’t find a bass. But I think I’ve found the best of both worlds this week.”
Not only does he believe he’s found the best of both worlds for a live broadcast, but he’s also found smallmouth and largemouth on numerous fisheries. With two legendary anglers and personalities colliding in Michigan, it could equal magic on “Zona LIVE.”
“I’m expecting fireworks this week,” Hite said. “It should be a fishing trip of a lifetime with one of my best friends.”
The broadcast will air on Thursday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET. Zona and Davy will be taking your questions throughout the show, and fans who send in questions will be entered to win prizes.
