After boating a solid 7- to 8-pounder, KVD managed to bury the treble hook of a deep diving crankbait near the palm of his hand.

He held himself together long enough to cull out a small fish, but needed emergency assistance from renowned photographer Garrick Dixon. Dixon boarded VanDam's boat and used the classic fishing line trick to pull the hook from KVD's flesh.

Perhaps that was the bass getting even with the legend... It was a dramatic few moments, but he was back to casting within minutes seemingly no worse for the wear.
