Junior Championship: Day 1 weigh-in

Day 1 was a big one for Rein Golubjatnikov at the Costa Bassmaster Junior Championship presented by DICKâs Sporting Goods. The 13-year old New Yorker had some hefty surprises in store for the crowd gathered in downtown Huntingdon, Tenn. for the beginning of the two-day national championship.

Teams from 28 states and Canada are represented in the championship which is being held on Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake in northwest Tennessee. Here, a line of some of those teams begins to form at the tanks waiting for Tuesdayâs 1:45 p.m. start.

It was a hot day in Huntingdon and the sun shone brightly upon the anglers for the eight hours they were on the water. The tents backstage provided relief though, as did the cup of ice water dumped on Michiganâs Josh Elsey.

Let the show begin! Gentlemen from the area provided a wonderful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner to start the show. And there were some big bass to be shown!

Michiganâs Remington Barkley and Josh Elsey were the first to weigh in on Tuesday and they had a limit of five bass that weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces.

Mayer McCrary and Tanner Dreiling of Texas are in 44th place with one bass that weighed 2-0.

Evan Kembel and Aiden Steury of Colorado are in 50th place with one bass weighing 14 ounces.

Then Golubjatnikov stepped to the scales and weighed the big bass of the day â and a biggunâ it was. The 8-2 bass anchored a five-bass limit that weighed 15-13 and put him in the lead on Day 1. His dad Ken is boat captain/coach and heâs holding a 4-pound plus bass that Rein also caught on Tuesday. Golubjatnikov is fishing solo this week; the only angler in the field to do so.

Jacob Neff and Hayden Hedrick of Virginia are in 25th place with 5-5.

Here comes the second biggest bag of the day. It was weighed by the Louisiana duo of Jordan Sylvester and Jacob Tullier who had a limit that weighed 15-1. Along with Golubjatnikov, they were the only other team that weighed in a double-digit bag on Day 1. The big bass of the bag weighed 5-7.

Mike Abbott and Ryan Kovatch of Ohio are in 45th place with 1-3.

James Bressler and Julian Dent of Ohio are in 42nd place with 2-3.

Jacob Kekvinda and Coleton Usher of Iowa are tied for 19th place with 6-0.

Caden Usher and Hunter Rawson of Iowa are in 49th place with one bass weighing 15 ounces.

Ethan Johnson and Jack Hennies of Minnesota are in 38th place with 2-14.

Walker McElroy and Brayden Cooper of Texas are in a tie for 27th place with 5-3.

Mitchell Straffon and Henri Sturm of Michigan are in eighth place with 8-10.

Ashton and Bladen Raspberry of North Carolina are in 16th place with 6-6.

Gunner West and Brandon Hammontree of Oklahoma are in sixth place with 9-8.

Logan Powell and Cameron Irizarry of West Virginia are in a tie for 12th place with 6-15.

Colby Carrier and Abe Lafrance of Maine are in fourth place with 9-15.

Jon Anderson and Aannin Kalwara of Rhode Island are in 32nd with 4-3.

Destiny Powell and Riley Albanese of West Virginia are in 34th place with 4-0.

David Derlak and Andon Goins of Tennessee are in 39th place with 2-11.

Phillip Herring and Calup Williams of Mississippi are in 14th place with 6-12.

Dominic Cecco and Dylan Henrie of Pennsylvania are in 43rd place with 2-0.

Caleb Williams and Lex Thompson of Georgia are in 24th place with 5-6.

Elijah Benson and C.J. Hudson of Georgia are in 35th place with 3-7.

Lane Allen and Colton Hefner of Oklahoma are in 41st place with 2-5.

Jack Mutzabaugh and Eli Stendig of Virginia are in 11th place with 7-2.

Chanler Break and Chaney Weick of Kentucky are in a tie for 47th with 1-2.

Bradlee Parish and Tyler Guin of Mississippi are in third place with 9-15. They had a limit on Day 1, which split a tie-breaker with Carrier and Lafrance to put them in the Top 3 heading into the final day of fishing.
