I guide for whitetails in the fall, so one of my favorite hobbies — it’s sort of an April hobby — is I love to go (antler) shed hunting. I’ve got a few thousand sheds at home from deer, and a few from moose, but mostly deer. Where I live no one does it, and it’s kind of remote, so I’ve had days when I’ve found 75 sheds. I couldn’t even carry them all out. 2 / 7 What is your favorite food? Lake of the Woods walleye. That’s where I live. It’s probably one of the best walleye fisheries in the world, so I eat a lot of them when I’m at home. 3 / 7 What is your favorite fishery/lake? Lake of the Woods, where I live. It’s big: A million acres, 14,000 islands. It’s probably the best multi-species fishery in the world. We’ve got bass, walleye, pike, muskie, crappie, lake trout ... 4 / 7 ... In the U.S., Lake Lanier. I just love catching the big spots, and in most lake you don’t get to catch big spotted bass. That’s my thing. And I’ve had some good days here. 5 / 7 Ice fishing at home, or fishing from a boat? I ice fish at home because we have to put walleyes on the table. But I like being in the boat more, for sure. But ice fishing’s fun ... 6 / 7 ... a lot of Southern people don’t get it: Why would you drill a hole in the ice and sit in the cold? But it’s cool because there’s no limit to the number of people who can go, so it’s a bit more social. And we catch a lot of fish when we go do it, so it’s not like we go out there and don’t catch anything. 7 / 7 What genre of music dominates your playlist while driving between tournaments? Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam is my favorite band, and I listen to them more than anyone else. I listen to a little bit of everything, but Pearl Jam is my favorite band.
