After driving 13 hours over two days, including a stop at the Bass Pro Shops signature store in Memphis, Savannah College of Art & Design anglers (from left) Haley Porter, Abigale DeVane, Ryleigh Tyson, Abby Askew and Chasten Whitfield, show off their new Carhartt shirts. At the BPS in the former Pyramid, the anglers “ate and bought stuff. It’s like a giant toy store with a bowling alley,” one said. “A fisherwoman’s paradise,” said another.

Bill Carson of Johnson Outdoors, representing Minn Kota and Humminbird, offers a congratulatory fist bump to Kent State’s Tanner Ward as teammates JJ Kocevar and Tanner Shriver look on. Ward reported to Carson that he did in fact catch a walleye in practice, brought it in and ate it. Carson was really interested in the anglers’ walleye exploits during practice.

Youngstown State University’s Jared Latone claimed the first injury of the week, yanking a tungsten weight from a bush and leaving a nice cut on his chin. A trip to Walmart for a first aid kit has him on the mend. (Don’t tell his mom the nearly inch-long gash probably should have required stitches.)

Hunter Sales and Tristan Stalsworth can empathize with the ASUMH team (<a href=https://www.bassmaster.com/news/host-team-making-first-casts-college>See story</a>). They started the Carson-Newman University program three years ago and proudly display their team’s signature Eagle talons. (They are good fish catchers).

From bad luck to good. Latone (remember him and his chin?) and teammate Jonathan Creed were fortunate enough to be boat No. 106, which Bill Carson selected as winner of a blind draw for a Ultrex trolling motor. Talk about an early win.
