Mystery Lake — where is it?

The Bassmaster Elite Series Mystery Lake location for the June 28-July 1 tournament has been a mystery to pros and fans alike since the surprise was announced last summer. On Thursday, May 24, at 1 p.m. CT, B.A.S.S. will announce the location on Bassmaster.com.

The Mystery Lake location for the June 28-July 1 tournament has been a mystery to Bassmaster Elite Series pros and fans alike since the surprise was announced last summer.

It has remained a mystery even to B.A.S.S. employees, like me.

As the Social Media Editor, you’d think I might have some insight. But maybe it’s because of my direct access to so many Facebook and Twitter fans that the company has been keeping the secret from me. My boss indicated that if I was fired before the announcement was made (is that really on the table?), I might blurt out my insider info to tens of thousands of fans. Or maybe a fan could bribe me for the details. (FYI: Cash would work, as would an all-expenses-paid trip to Falcon Lake. I’m just sayin’.) Meanwhile, the bosses smile in that smug way that people “in the know” share.

I’ve been angling for the truth for a while now, and today the higher-ups gave me a nugget of info. They told me the mystery fishery was within 500 miles of La Crosse, Wis.

Duh!

Obviously the lake has to be less than a day’s driving distance from the 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series River Rumble so the pros can get there in time for practice on Monday or Tuesday of that week. Great information, guys. Did they really think that was helpful?

But here’s what I do know: We’ll all find out in less than two weeks. On Thursday, May 24, at 1 p.m. CT, B.A.S.S. will announce the location on Bassmaster.com, and you’ll hear it at the same time the pros do — and at the same time I do.

In the meantime, here’s a map to help you narrow down the fisheries. You can zoom in and pan over the area to see what areas are possibilities.

If you think you’ve figured it out, let me know! Post your guesses anytime between now and May 24 on the B.A.S.S. Facebook page or tag us in your guess on Twitter.
