Medical emergency pauses Opens weigh-in

A medical emergency briefly stopped the Day 2 weigh-in at the Basspro.com Bassmaster Central Open on the Mississippi River.

During the weigh-in at Veterans Freedom Park in La Crosse, Wis., a co-angler collapsed on stage. B.A.S.S. immediately called emergency medical services. The La Crosse Fire Department and Tri State Ambulance arrived in less than five minutes, treated the angler, and took him to the hospital for evaluation.

“That was a scary moment,” said Opens tournament director Chris Bowes. “But the EMT’s arrived quickly and took great care of our co-angler. We are really appreciative and thankful for the medical personnel. Those folks know what they are doing.”

After the weigh-in, Bowes talked to the angler by phone and learned he has been released from the hospital.

The top 12 pro and co-anglers will begin Day 3 of the Bassmaster Open at 6:00 a.m. Saturday from Veterans Freedom Park.
