Horton leaves Classic with illness

SHREVEPORT, La. — Timmy Horton of Muscle Shoals, Ala., has withdrawn from the Bassmaster Classic after spending most of Saturday in a Shreveport hospital with digestive problems.

Apparently Horton began feeling ill about 2 a.m., with symptoms that continued to worsen. Horton did not make it to the 7:15 a.m. launch Saturday morning on the Red River. A BASS official confirmed he is not competing today due to illness.

Horton won the 2000 Angler of the Year title as a rookie, the only angler ever to do that, and has competed in 10 straight Classics. That active streak is second only behind two-time Classic champion Kevin VanDam.
