Gear Review: Beast Coast Dream Balance Swim Jig

What is it?

Beast Coast Dream Balance Swim Jig

What sets it apart?

Avoid the roll, deliver strike-triggering deflections and show the fish something enticing when at rest — that’s a tall order, but that’s what the Dream Balance Swim Jig was made to do. Molded from lead-free Tungsten resin, this bait features a streamlined chin keel designed to keep weight under the head of its trailer and preventing even the hefty ones from marring the action. This keel also benefits the jig during bottom bouncing and stop-and-go retrieves by maintaining a 45-degree angle to mimic a feeding baitfish.

How do I use it?

The Dream Balance Swim Jig comes in 3/8-ounce and 1/2-ounce sizes with 4/0 and 5/0 hooks, respectively. The 1/2-ounce size is suggested for swimbaits of 4 3/4 inches or larger. The jig’s custom corkscrew secures trailers, while its extended shank also serves as a skirt hub. With this design, you can remove the skirt and fish the jighead naked in open water or any time you don’t need the skirt’s extra flash.

Angler’s insight:

Its head design will remind you of the Aliens from Ridley Scott’s Sci-Fi thrillers, but this unique shape makes the Dream Balance Swim Jig an effective choice for anything from bumping down logs and laydowns, to tracing dock stalls to grinding through scattered vegetation. Nice to know the jig can handle those bigger trailers without compromising performance. In super clear water, you might drop that skirt and go with a more authentic baitfish profile.
