Gear Review: Bagley Shallow Sunny B

WHAT IS IT?

Bagley Shallow Sunny B

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Carrying a pair of No. 5 VMC treble hooks, the Shallow Sunny B features a welded through-wire design for strength and durability, along with precision weighting for superior action and maximum casting distance. Each lure receives a light coating of lacquer that bolsters the body without adding much weight. Available colors: Blue Chartreuse Shad, Blue Olive Shad, Burnt Crawdad, Cooked Crawdad, Crusty Crawdad, Chartreuse Root Beer, Hot Claw Crawdad, Orange Belly Gill, Purple Gill and Root Beer.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Nothing wrong with kids bearing strong resemblance to their older siblings, but the pride comes from establishing one’s unique traits — something that makes you stand out. Modeled after Bagley’s popular Sunny B balsa crankbait, the new Shallow Sunny B takes the best of the family traits, in particular an enticing wiggle and enchanting buoyancy, and shortens the diving depth with a shorter bill. While the Sunny B hits 6 to 8 feet, the Shallow version is made for 1- to 4-foot depths.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

A bite-size snack that’s easily gobbled by bass of all dimensions, the Shallow Sunny B boasts a unique assembly via Bagley’s heat compressing molding process (HMC), which joins two full-length halves that are heat sealed. But creating the baits in this method, Bagley is able to precisely position the weights for optimal center of gravity. The HMC also yields superior flotation at rest, better overall balance, longer casts and the tight wiggle with a touch of roll that entices the big bites.
