Jacob Nummy has the distinct honor of leading the team he founded to a national victory.
Nummy was the brainchild of the fishing club at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) and he, along with teammate Tom Frink, brought the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship trophy home to their school.
Today, both Nummy and Frink sat down and answered questions from fans on Twitter. Below is the transcript. Read transcripts from last year’s college champions, as well as Elite Series pros, here.

Fans, the #collegebass champs are here and ready to take your questions!
Welcome, @tommyfrink and @jacobnummy to the B.A.S.S. headquarters! And congrats on your #collegebass victory.
Very humbled by the opportunity to be a part of all of the things to come from the National Championship win!
It’s exciting to be here! And we’re looking forward to everything coming up!
Any advice for colleges just starting up their bass clubs?
Focus on creating a solid foundation through your club’s constitution and then focus on fishing!
Helen Northcutt @HelenNorthcutt
Any plans to fish professionally in the future?
Not at the moment. I’m planning on reviewing my options at the end of my college career. I have one more year left at AUM.
Yeah, I’m planning on using College fishing as a stepping stone now. It’s the best way to fish while I’m in school
Congrats! How quickly after winning did you guys start sizing each other up for the Classic Bracket?
I don’t think we have yet. We’re still taking in the National Championship win!
How confident were you that your west coast technique would work on chatuge?
I was pretty confident in the baits because I know the fish had never seen them. Out West it works on that size of fish.
How much longer are you guys fishing the college series? and what are your plans afterwards?
I’ve got 1 more yr left that I’ll be competing in the college series, & then I’ll pursue a job in the fishing industry.
This was my last tournament except for the Classic Bracket. My plans for afterwards are work, save money, fish the Opens.
Tyler Reed or Hank Weldon?
Trip Weldon.
I plead the fifth.
Aaron Guilbeau @AaronGuilbeau
Besides prefishing looking at lake maps/depths how do y’all prepare for a tourny? Physical mental etc…
We went to a different lake that was similar to work on brush fishing and get an idea of what the fish were doing.
What was that hat that you wore at launch each day?
My buddy got it for me. It’s an Operation Iraqi Freedom – I get more comments on my hat than anything else!
What’s the next step in your fishing career? @tommyfrink
Hopefully I’ll be competing against your dad in the Classic.
Watched you guys last weekend on the U. What kind of train wreck net job fish catch was that?
Haters gonna hate. @tommyfrink says that was a miracle fish!
@tommyfrinkC-Rig Lizard or Texas Rigged Lizard?
I don’t own any lizards!!!
David Hunter Jones @DavidHuntrJones
What was the other name for the El Raton? The one you all gave it? Wasn’t it some sort of weasel?
The flesh weasel
Did you not see the color? And, I mean, it looks like a weasel.
Make sure and ask Don Logan if you can visit his pond now that you’re national champs
I’m always down for practicing my hook set!
It’s hard to beat @jacobnummy‘s answer.
If you could choose a word to depict the feeling of a national championship what would it be?
@tommyfrinknice choice of hashtag
On the last day of the tournament at Chatuge, did you know you had it in the bag or were you uncertain if you had the win?
That was probably the most stressful ride back. @tommyfrink and I didn’t even talk!
It was nerve racking not knowing if we left the door wide open for someone else to take over the lead.
David Hunter Jones @DavidHuntrJones
Do y’all have any superstitions?
Finding the lucky women is key.
I make @jacobnummykeep the same routine.
How do you feel about fishing in Michigan for the Bracket Championship? Have you fished up there before?
It’s out of my comfort zone but it’s still bass fishing so I’m excited for it!
I’m excited about it. I haven’t fish in Michigan, but I’ve fished the Great Lakes and river systems.
Where was Frinks mullet at?!
The mullet was sitting at home. It was all business and no party.
Andrew Upshaw @AUpshawFishing
Great job at the National Championship and good luck at making the Classic
Thank you! Just trying to follow in your footsteps.
Ditto what @tommyfrinksaid.
Andrew Upshaw @AUpshawFishing
Hey, if that happens you would be in the Classic! You can do it bud!
If you go to the Classic, how do you feel about fishing on Guntersville? Is it a lake you’re familiar with?
I’m familiar with it & I know it’s a great fishery.
I’d feel decent about it. I’ve fished Guntersville a bunch. There’s only one way to find out.
Can I please go fishing with the national champs on Lake Jordan sometime?
Demand is pretty high right now & the price is going up!
Thanks for all the support everyone! We’re excited for all the things to come and to represent our school and B.A.S.S.
Thanks, fans, for tuning in, and we look forward to seeing how @jacobnummy and @tommyfrink do in the Bracket!
