Gear Review: Z-Man Gremlin

WHAT IS IT?

Z-Man Gremlin

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Z-Man designed this bait with thin connection points between the torso and legs for ease of motion. If you want more action, detach those side flappers to unleash maximum action. Ideal for heavy-cover flipping and punching, the new Gremlin also performs well on a Carolina rig, swim jig, swing head or a bladed jigs. Made with natural buoyancy for enticing falls on weighted presentations, the 4.5-inch Gremlin comes in eight colors.

HOW DO I USE IT?

We use the term “creature of habit” to describe someone given to predictable behavior. That’s precisely what Z-Man wanted to avoid with the new Gremlin creature bait. With an ever-increasing level of fishing pressure educating bass, the idea was to create a multipurpose creature bait with a different motion; specifically, a refined, less aggressive tail action and appendages contoured to help manage water dynamics. A substantial body securely holds a hook point, while a ribbed torso compresses on the bite. Deep-cut ribs increase water displacement and exude air bubbles during retrieves.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

One of the major selling points for Z-Man soft baits is the brand’s proprietary ElaZtech formula. Extreme durability has long been highly valued by anglers, but its soft nature has a tendency to yield too quickly in heavy-cover presentations, often leading to premature hook exposure. Addressing this issue, the Gremlin debuts Z-Man’s new ElaZtech Flipping Formula. Tougher than the original ElaZtech and made to hold hook points in place until the moment of truth, this material was created with heavy cover fishing in mind.
