Gear Review: Shimano World Pop 69F

WHAT IS IT?

Shimano World Pop 69F

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The Shimano World Minnow created waves last year when introduced, and now the Shimano World Pop 69F comes next, bringing with it a multipurpose topwater popper unlike anything on the market. The World Pop features Shimano’s Flash Boost technology that suspends a highly reflective foil on micro springs within the lure body to create a continuous flash that mimics a wounded baitfish, even as the bait sits still. Scale Boost utilizes lifelike composite-pitch hologram to provide a natural scale pattern. Available in 10 colors. The length is 2 3/4 inches and it weighs 3/8 ounce.

HOW DO I USE IT?

You get the distinct ability to use a walk-the-dog action with continuous rod twitches, or large pops from the cupped face with a sweep of the rod tip. Even better, you get tantalizing, lifelike action that triggers strikes from Flash Boost and Scale Boost, making this bait ideal for making long casts to attract spooky bass from afar.

$19.99

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

It’s not unusual when using a popper-style topwater for a bass to charge the bait as it splashes across the surface and then hesitate to bite as the bait sits motionless. Sure, a quick twitch of rod tip can trigger a strike. What I discovered beyond coincidence were bass striking the bait as it sat still on the surface, obviously triggering strikes with Flash Boost and Scale Boost.
