Gear Review: Rapala PXR Mavrik 110 Jerkbait

WHAT IS IT?

Rapala PXR Mavrik 110 Jerkbait

WHAT SETS IT APART?

ICAST saw Rapala introduce its Precision Extreme Series with a premium suspending jerkbait they call the PXR Mavrik 110. PXR stands for Precision, Xtreme, Redline (referencing the VMC hooks). The first in a series of professional-grade lures, the PXR Mavrik features Rapala’s Long-Cast System, which assists with ultra-long, accurate casts that keep the bait in the strike zone. Rapala fits the PXR Mavrik with three premium VMC RedLine Series No. 5 treble hooks.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Measuring 4 3/8 inches and weighing 1/2 ounce, the PXR Mavrik is designed to hold in the water column with a head-down posture that mimics an injured baitfish. From spring shad spawns, to fall schooling, this vulnerable appearance will tempt opportunistic bass. Adding to the appeal, Rapala gave this bait a hard-cutting, semi-erratic action to make it a versatile tool for a broad range of scenarios. Available in 18 colors, the PXR Mavrik is made with a durable plastic body and realistic external scales.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Increasingly, the jerkbait is gaining mainstream acceptance as a year-round bait. Sure, it has its seasonal shine points, but this bait fills key roles 12 months out of the year. Aggression levels vary in different scenarios, so Rapala helps ensure you catch what bites by fitting these baits with VMC RedLine hooks made of extra-light, extra-strength VMC Vanadium Steel, formed with a compressed Needle Point design, and coated with ultra-smooth Polytetrafluoroethylene (P.T.F.E.) for quick penetration.
