Gear Review: Great Lakes Finesse CX Rods

WHAT IS IT?

Great Lakes Finesse CX Rods

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Makers of finely tuned, dialed-in smallmouth baits, the Great Lakes Finesse Design team has a solid handle on how their creations should be delivered and fished. Demanding the proper tackle abilities led to the creation of the GLF Finesse CX Rods. Created with the vision of enticing and landing giant smallmouth, these spinning rods boast maximum sensitivity, super stealthy casting distance and the optimal blend of length, power and action for finesse techniques.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The GLF Finesse CX lineup includes three models: A 7-foot, 8-inch medium light, fast action rod is the longest casting and most parabolic. That makes it ideal for finesse hair jigs, underspins, wacky rigs and Cindy rigs (like strolling). The 7-8 medium heavy, extra-fast model is designed for bottom presentations like dragging a tube or Juvy Craw or fishing a heavy Ned rig or finesse jig. The versatile 7-foot, 4-inch medium light, fast action rod is made to handle any finesse presentation.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

The GLF team put a lot of thought into creating a family of rods specifically tasked with effectively delivering the company’s baits. Designing rods that ensure the requisite performance without creating fatigue, they used premium high-modulus carbon blanks woven into an X pattern for maximum sensitivity, durability and crispness, but left those blanks uncoated to minimize weight and eliminate fish-spooking glare. Matte black AT Microwave Air Guides also decrease weight, while ensuring long casts.
